Lecture 9 - Intro to Video Flashcards
What are the two types of video?
Analog: smooth electronic waves
Digital: each frame is a bitmapped graphic, stored as 1s and 0s
What is the most common DV compression?
DV25
How does video compression work?
By reducing color and getting rid of color information and keep the brightness since the human eye is more sensitive to brightness than color
What does X:Y:Z mean?
Explains the amount of compression so
X is brightness
Y and Z are color
What is the scale for compression?
4 means no compression
0 means max compression
So 4:4:4 means no compression at all
The frame size of a Standard DV Frame
For NTSC:
For Pal:
NTSC: 3:2 ratio
Pal: 4:3 ratio
The ratios for High Definition for NTSC
For 1440x1080 is….
For 1280x730 is….
1440 x 1080 is 4:3 ratio
1280 x 730 is 16:9 ratio
What does more pixels mean?
Higher resolution
On a newer HD TV, what does the info on the bow mean?
Interlaced Display
What are some problems with 4K TVs?
Not a lot of 4K content yet
Old HDMI cords can’t transfer content fast enough because of file size
Most camcorders can’t create 4K content and even if they can it can only be 15 frames per second
Three things to know if you need a higher resolution TV or not
- The resolution of the screen
- The size of the screen
- Viewing distance
What is the correct distance for viewing 4K?
4 feet to get the full benefit
The benefits of resolution:
480p
720p
1080p
480p = 14.6 feet
720p = 9.8 feet
1080p = 3.5 feet
How many ppi should there be for hand held devices?
300 ppi
What resolution does the iPhone have?
326 based on the skinny triangle concept
