Lecture 7 - CoMo Flashcards
home field advantage
There is an unlikelihood of winning multiple games away from home
4 misconceptions about home field advantage
- teams win because of crowd support
- Teams win at home because traveling affects doom the visitors
- Teams win at home because they have a kinder schedule
- Teams win at home because they “know” and take “advantage” of unique field characteristics
why does homefield advantage really exist?
referees and confirmation bias to crowd (Ref is psychologically pressured to act accordingly to the crowd, in favor of the home team)
Take the first/best
I have option numbers (option 1, option 2, option 3, etc…)
Quality of options decreases as options increase
Less likely to choose option 1 as options increase
1st option = best
Time to think leads to bad decisions (e.g., overthinking)
Considering with skill building your knowledge transfers from system 2 to system 1 which is more automatic/fast
Handball example of take the first/best
Those using a functional strategy generated more options which = higher dynamic inconsistency and lower quality of the final option. Strategy did not significantly correlate to dynamic inconsistency, which suggests that increases in dynamic inconsistency were not due to the strategy per se but due to the different number of generations by each strategy.
influence of system 1 on take the first/best
system 1 = intuitions. When experts skill-build they are able to transfer their knowledge from syst 2 to 1 which is readily available. the first option that comes to mind is therefore the best
