What is plantigrade?
Walking with the metatarsals flat on the ground
What is digitigrade?
When the animal walks on its digits/toes
What is Unguligrade
Walking on a hoof or nail
What is the cursorial movement?
Animals built to walk/run
Features of cursorial animals
Limbs generally straight, move in a parasagittal plane
Features of non-cursorial movements
Very crouched limbs, often wider, run in small bursts, often less than 3kg
What is trotting
No overlapping support between alternate limbs
What is pacing
A non-natural gait (except camels)
What is galloping
Quadrupeds only, forelimbs move in a phase like pairs, true aerial phase
What is the Froude number?
indicates how well a model works in relation to the system
What is static stability?
A body is in equilibrum if the forces are balanced
