What are the two purposes when we say family?
Medical purpose, aka IMMEDIATE family.
Social purposes, aka friends, in-laws, etc..
What should we always do when we have family in the visit?
Make sure we ask who is with the patient so we don’t look dumb
When do we see caregivers in patient care?
Pediatrics
Geriatrics
Disabled (physical or mental)
End-of-life
What is suggested to patients regarding caregivers?
Have a primary caregiver that is designated to receive all info.
What are the two approaches to team function?
Hierarchical control
Relationship-centered
What is a plenary discussion?
Facilitator leads meeting with opportunities for whole group to comment.
What is a report/presentation?
1 or more reps provide info to a group, followed by a defined Q&A period.
What is a brainstorm?
Members volunteer ideas at any time, which are displayed for the whole group to see; may set aside time to review ideas.
What is a go-round?
Each person gets to speak, may have time limit; usually NO DISCUSSION UNTIL everyone gets a turn.
What is a meeting of pros and cons?
Participants offer list of arguments for and against a proposal.
Facilitator collectively reviews the pro and con of each side.
What are anonymous cards?
Participants provide anonymous feedback which is reviewed by the facilitator.
What is a meeting of switching places?
Participants who are known to support a certain viewpoint must TRADE PLACES and argue OPPOSING viewpoint instead.
What are small groups?
Small groups discuss an agenda item, with a summary of each group’s highlights.
What is a world Cafe?
Rotating small group discussions - moderator stays at a table while other participants switch tables and topics periodically.
What is a fishbowl?
Central sub-group discusses the topic, while a larger outer group observes and offers silent support.
