- Pronouns, this means that they do not have a lot of meaning themselves but point towards nouns (are dietic)
- These make up 13 of the 50 most common words
What category is the word ‘the’ a part of, how much of the 50 does it make up?
- Article/determiner (signaling specific thing)
- 5
How many of the 50 words are about time, what are these called?
- 4
- They are known as stative verbs e.g. be, have, will, would
What class of words are about spatial relationships, how many of the 50 most common words do they make up?
- Prepositions e.g to, in, on , with
- Make up 10 of the most common words

- Conjunctions, they join two things together (connections between events)
- e.g. and, not, as, but
What is the role of verbs?
They convey the events occurring
What is an event?
- Is a point in time that has boundaries
- An event is essentially conveyed by a sentence
What is the problem with incomplete sentences?
They don’t convey a whole event
What are the participants of an event spilt into?
Have semantic (or thematic) roles:
- Agent/actor= is doing the thing
- Patient= who they are doing it to
What is causal order?
The order of cause and effect
What is temporal order?
The order of time (often the same as the causal order)
What is another name of the roles of participants in a event?
The events arguments
What do we track across events?
Time, space, causality and intentions (what is included in a situation model)
