Q

epithelial tissue function + description

A
  • epithelial tissue forms linings between organs
  • acts as a barrier to protect contents of cell
  • regulates movement in and out of cells

Q

connective tissue function + description

A
  • embedded in a fibrous matrix called
    the extracellular matrix
  • connects other tissues together and provided mechanical properties like elasticity
  • acts as an energy store – fat cells are a common component of connective tissue

Q

muscle tissue function + description

A
  • made of fibers which can contract
  • cells that make up muscle tissue use a lot of energy therefore have a lot of mitochondria
  • force is generated by two types of fibrous proteins they contain which
can pull against one another. they are called actin and myosin

Q

nervous tissue function + description

A
  • mainly made up of neurons
  • transmit information around the body as electrical impulses called action potentials
  • brain, spinal cord and nerves are made of nervous tissue
