Lecture 5 - Structure of Blood Vessels I Flashcards
Layers of blood vessel?
tunica intima, tunica media, tunica adventitia
Characteristic of elastin in Elastic artery TM?
fenestrated
TI proportion in muscular arteries?
10% - increased in hypertension
Components of TI?
endothelium, connective tissue (elastin), internal elastic lamina
Components of TM?
collagen, elastin, smooth muscle, external elastic lamina (muscular arteries only)
Components of TA?
collagen and elastin fibres, nerves, vasovasorum, lymphatics
Histoloy of artherosclerosis
endothelial damage, intima thickening, S.M migrate to intima, macrophage accumulate lipid turning into foam cells
Berry aneurysm common location?
a branching points, usually brain (Circle of Willis)
Dissecting aneurysm common locations?
thoracic and abdominal aorta
Dissecting aneurysm pathology?
bloo pooling in media, weakness of intima
Risk factors of hypertension?
obesity, salt, smoking, stress
Hypertension histology?
intima and media thickening, IEL duplication
Unique histological characteristics of arterioles?
no EEL (less requirement from small flow volumes) and 2-3 SM layers in media
