Lecture 17 - Blood Pressure Flashcards
Hypertension causing remodelling?
increased wall tension, release of Angiotensin II etc., thicker stiffer wall, smaller lumen
Co-morbidities of hypertension?
increased after load increases work of heart leading to failure; accelerated artherosclerosis leading to MI and ischemia; weakened vessel walls leading to haemmorhage stroke and retinopathy
Short term control of blood pressure?
cardiac and neurological properties
Long term control of blood pressure?
renal fluid volume control
Factors affecting systolic pressure?
aortic compliance, stroke volume
Factors affecting diastolic pressure?
aortic compliance, heart rate, total peripheral compliance
Flow during diastole
possible due to compliance of blood vessels (holding in aorta)
Stroke volume determined by?
preload, afterload, chronotropy, ionotropy
Systolic pressure duing exercise?
increased due to increased preload from vasoconstriction and increases ionotropy
