7
Q

define crystallisation, vegetation and pressure relief

A

crystallisation: evaporation of groundwater
vegetation: root growth
pressure relief: the taking off of soil lying above mineral (overburden removal)

Q

Why are the main products of weathering clay and quartz minerals?

A

because they are resistant to chemical weathering

10
Q

what the chemical weathering processes?

A

solution- mineral dissolved in water
oxidation- with oxygen
hydrolisis- with water (where water in not broken down (hydration))

16
Q

what is topsoil?

A

a mixture of weathered mineral debris and plant material

17
Q

what is a drift?

A

weathered and eroded material that has been transported and deposited on top of bedrock

18
Q

what is colluvium?

A

weathered debris that has moved down a slope
