Lecture 5 Flashcards
What is a mesosome?
Attaches the circular DNA molecule to the cell membrane
What does it mean when prokaryotic cells go through exponential growth?
They have a circular DNA strand that continually undergoes DNA replication so at optimal temperature it. an divide every 20-40 minutes
Describe the steps in prokaryotic cell cycle
DNA is circular and not condense
DNA is replicated and the cell wall increases in size
the growth of the cell wall produces a septum
invagination splits into two cells in a process called partitioning
mesosome is recreated
Describe the process of prokaryotic DNA synthesis
double stranded DNA is cleaved leaving a 3’ hydroxyl
RNA primer is syntheses from which DNA polymerase will make the complementary strand which requires type 11 topics erase
Describe the protein complex on the eukaryotic chromosome
They are a group of proteins that bind to the DNA throughout the proteins They all contain their own origin of replication to which they bind
these are all simultaneously replicated (slightly sequential
Describe what happens in prophase
centrioles duplicate
centrioles move to poles
chromosomes condense
mitoic spindle forms
Describe what happens in anaphase
daughter chromatids seperafe and move to poles
Describe what happens in metaphase
chromosomes move to equator
Describe what happens I. telophase
membranes form around new nuclei
cytokinesis
Describe what happens in interphase
The DNA is condensed and not visble
In telophase what forms between the two cells
actin and myosin called absition
in plants it is called a cell plate
