Lecture 5 Flashcards
susceptibility (disposition) definition
ability or affinity of acquiring of some pathogen microogrnaism and to allow/enable to this pathogen to maintain itself within the host
what is the opposite term for susceptibility
resistance
what is immunity
specific resistance of microorganisms to a specific microorganism
based on existence of specific antibodies or sensitised T lymphocytes
what are the types of immunity
active immunity
- natural = antibodies developed in response to an infection
- artificial = antibodies developed in response to a vaccination
passive immunity
- natural = antibodies received from mother through the breast milk
- artificial = antibodies received from a medicine (gamma globulin)
what are the 2 defence mechanisms against infection?
resistance (non specific defence)
immunity (specific defence)
factors of general disposition
related to the species
related to the breed
related to the age (colibacilosis, aujeszky)
gender related resistance
factors of individual disposition
constitution
keeping of animals
nutrition
exploitation
comobridity
tissue damage
transport
stress
number of susceptible animals
