Be justified, not arbitrary. Use your judgement, use common sense, and consider the impact on the catalog.
What are some scenarios where you would add a variant title? (This is not comprehensive)
Cover title variation, spine title variation, portion of title proper, special characters in title, possessives in title proper, acronyms in title etc
What MARC field and sub field are statements of responsibility codes under?
- $c
What punctuation to use with SoR?
/ = separates the whole title from author.
; = separate statement relating to to different functions
. = 245 always ends in a period unless ending w/an abbreviation, initial/letter or data that already ends w/punctuation.
What MARC field are edition statements recorded in?
- 1st & 2nd indicators are #’s. Field 250 ends in a period.
What to do if I books doesn’t have an edition statement?
Don’t create it. Just omit it.
What is the MARC field for publication, etc?
264.
There are 3 subfields in 264 to help us further identify book. What are they?
Place of publication ($a), name of publisher ($b), date of publication ($c).
