MARC bibliographic records are distinguished from all other MARC records by what?
Specific codes in the Leader, which identifies other bibliographic record types.
What’s the purpose of a fill code (l) in a bibliographic record?
It indicates the format specifies a code to be used, but the creator of the record has decided not to attempt to supply a code.
Fill code u (unknown of unspecified) indicates what?
The creator of the record attempted to supply a code, but was unable to determine what the code should be.
Fill code n means what?
To indicate the characteristic defined by the position is not applicable to a specific type of item or record.
What is a display constant?
A term, phrase, spacing, or punctuation that may be system generated to make a visual presentation of data in a record more meaningful to a user. The use of these are determined by each org/system.
What are the four types of punctuation used in a MARC record?
Period, question mark, exclamation mark, and a hyphen.
