Derived cataloguing/Copy Cataloguing Flashcards
Lib techs are responsible for helping create what?
OG & copy cataloguing for books and other materials
What is derived cataloguing?
Process of finding a matching & existing bibliographic record for the item in hand elsewhere, editing as necessary & using the amended record in the local catalog
Once a record has been chosen, editing can begin. The process is…
Check for correctness of copy (classification #, subject headings), proofread, update authority records, local notes/fields from other libs to be removed.
What is Z39.50?
A protocol used by networked computers for information retrieval. This is the standard search & communication protocol used by ILSs to search & share MARC records
Type of changes commonly made to records you may copy:
Spelling and transcription errors, adding content, correcting outdated MARC fields, “ “ authority fields, “ “ subject headings, “ “ call numbers, changing records from AACR2 to RDA, and from AARC2 to a hybrid.
Search techniques:
Start with ISBN, then search for title and author together. Then move onto to other identifying information.
