• In French, when the main clause is in the future or implies a future
action/event, we do not use the present in the subordinate clause as
we do in English but we need to use the future.
• Generally, the subordinate clause is introduced by “quand”, “lorsque”,
“aussitôt que”, “tant que”, “aussi longtemps que”, “dès que” etc.

When the main clause implies an idea of future - for
instance when it is in the imperative form or with the
verb “espérer” in some contexts, the subordinate has
to be in the future.

A

J’irai me baigner s’il fait beau demain.

• When the subordinate clause is in the present tense after “si”, the main clause
can be in the present tense, the future tense or the imperative. The hypothesis is
considered possible (it may rain tomorrow).
