Lecture 4 Flashcards
1
Q
What are the types of polymorphisms?
A
SNP (Single Nucleotide Polymorphism), RFLP (Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism), VNTR (Variable Number Tandem Repeat), SSR (Simple Sequence Repeat), & CNV’s (Copy Number Variant)
2
Q
Why do polymorphisms not have a profound, if any effect at all on phenotype or expression of disease?
A
Polymorphisms normally occur around genes, but not on them (Introns).
3
Q
Difference between a polymorphism and mutation?
A
Look this up
4
Q
What are the two types of VNTRs?
A
Simple Sequence Repeats (SSR, microsatellites) & Short Tandem Repeats (STR, minisatellites)
