Lecture 3C: Development of network diagram + critical path. Flashcards
What is a project schedule
Defined as the sum of all project activities, considering nescessary dependencies and interrelationships.
What are the roles of schedules
- Schedules aid in planning project implementation by logically sequence activities based on time/ressource constraints.
- Allows to communicate aspects of project progress
- Schedules serve as the basis for controller implementation of project activities.
Categories of schedules
- Pictorial charts
- Gantt charts
- Linear schedules
- network diagrams.
Determining activity durations
D = A / PT
D is duration
P = productivity rate for a crew (units/hour)
T = number of crews
A = units of work to be done
How to determine productivity rate and what affects it
- From historical data
Factors affecting rate: - Project conditions
- Learning curve
- weather.
How to get earliest start and finsih and how to calculate late start and finish
EST and EFT : Forward pass
LST and LFT: Backward pass
What is the critical path
Critical path is the longest path duration through the network , and is the minimum overall project time duration.
if any activity in the critical path is delayed, then the entire project is delayed.
There may be more than one critical path.
what is the total float of an activity
float = latest finish - earliest finish = latest start - earliest start.
What is free float
- Determine the amount of time that an activity can be delayed without delaying the start time of any of its succeeding activities in the project
= minimum ES of next activity - EF of current activity
Interfering float
amount of time that is available to delay an activity without delaying the project esitmated completion time
= total float - free float
