What is mental health?
“a state of well-being in which every individual realises his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community”
What is the “5 Ways to Wellbeing”
The 5 Ways to Wellbeing were created as a result of the New Economics Foundation’s (NEF) Foresight Project on Mental Capitol and Wellbeing research report in 2008.
NEF conducted a review of the current evidence, found including five actions into our lives is important for wellbeing of individuals, families, communities and organisations.
What are the five categories to “5 Ways to Wellbeing”
Connect, keep learning, take notice, be active, give
What does the “give” category suggest
Carrying out acts of kindness, whether small or large, can increase happiness, life satisfaction and general sense of wellbeing
What does the “Be active” category suggest
Being physically active every day is great for our bodies and minds
What does the “keep learning” category suggest?
Being curious and seeking out new experiences positively stimulates the brain
What does the connect category suggest?
Strong relationships with others are an essential part of building resilience and boosting wellbeing
What does the “notice” category suggest?
Paying more attention to the present moment, to thoughts and feelings and to the world around, can boost our wellbeing
