Lecture 32 Flashcards
What is perception?
Organisation, identification, and interpretation of sensory information in order to represent and understand our environment
What is somatosensory relating to?
A sensation that can occur on the body, also refers to the brain’s representation of the body
What does cross-modal mean?
Using two different modalities (sensory + visual)
How do congruent inputs influence performance?
Facilitates performance
What is a perceptual illusion?
A faulty or distorted perception of something externally presented e.g. seeing a dog in the clouds
What is a representation?
An image or likeness of something as accessed by the brain
When the individual perceives the rubber hand as their own, what does this demonstrate?
Shows coupling of visual and sensory stimulation
What enhances the effect of perceiving the rubber hand as their own?
Movement
What level of congruence do you need for the rubber hand effect?
100%
Where is the motor cortex located?
In the frontal lobe
Where is the somatosensory cortex located?
Parietal lobe
What would a large representation in the brain indicate?
A more dextrous/sensitive area
Does imagery produce the effects seen in Franz’s experiment?
No
