Lecture 30 Flashcards
1
Q
What is MRI used for?
A
- Magnetic resonance imaging
- Measures structure
2
Q
What is fMRI used for?
A
- Functional magnetic resonance imaging
- Measures function
3
Q
Describe MRI in terms of spatial and temporal resolution
A
They have high spatial resolution but low temporal resolution
4
Q
What is the Corpus Callosum made up of?
A
Mainly nerve fibres (axons) with some grey matter (cell bodies) embedded
5
Q
What is a Callosotomy?
A
Surgical disconnection of Corpus Callosum
6
Q
What is a Commissurotomy?
A
Surgical disconnection of Corpus Callosum and anterior/posterior commissures
7
Q
Describe the technique of visual lateralisation
A
- Used to deliver information to each hemisphere separately
- Stimulus information goes into the same cortex as the motor cortex that allows the limb to move
8
Q
What are the conditions of a visual lateralisation task?
A
- Individual must keep their eyes straight ahead to ensure image is only presented to one side
- Stimuli only presented for short duration
