Lecture 3- Regions and features of brain and arterial supply Flashcards
What are the constituents of the CNS?
Brain and spinal column
What are the constituents of the PNS?
All nerves lying outside CNS- Brachial p, phrenic nerve, lumbar plexus, sacral plexus etc including the cranial nerves ( CNI- CNXII)
What are the cranial nerves? I- VII
I- Olfactory II- Optic III- Oculomotor IV- Trochlear V- Trigeminal VI- Abducens VII- Facial On Occasion Our Trusty Truck Acts Funny
What are the cranial nerves? VII- XII
VIII- Vestibulocochlear IX- Glossopharyngeal X- Vagus XI-Accesory XII-Hypoglossal Very Good Vehicle Any How
What are the 3 regions of the brain?
Forebrain- cer. hemispheres, thalamus and hypothalamus
Midbrain
Hindbrain- pons, MO, cerebellum
What does the brainstem consist of?
Mibrain > pons> medulla oblongata (S>I)
What are the 4 lobes of each central hemisphere?
Frontal, Parietal, Temporal, Occipital- lateral sulcus runs superior to T, inf along F and P
What is the structure of the cerebrum?
Surface of each cer. hemisphere = cortex (gray matter)
Connected by corpus callosum (white matter)
Where would you find the longitudinal fissure and the central sulcus?
LF- between two cerebral hemispheres
CS- between frontal and parietal lobes
Also parieto-occipital sulcus, and calcarine sulcus (separates occipital into lingual gyrus and cuneus)
Where are the pre/post central gyri found?
Above/ below central sulcus
Precentral- primary motor cortex
Postcentral- primary sensory cortex
What are the 3 meningeal layers?
Dura mater (outer periosteal and inner meningeal)
Arachnoid mater
Pia mater
D>A>P Superficial> deep
What are the dural partitions and what is their role?
Restrict rotary displacement of brain Falx cerebri Tentorium cerebelli Falx cerebelli Diaphragma sellae
What are the branches of the internal carotid arteries?
Anterior cerebral arteries
Middle cerebral arteries
Posterior communicating arteries
