18
Q

What movements occur in the transverse / longitudinal axis?

A

19
Q

What is an axis?

A

A straight line perpendicular to the plane of movement around which the joint rotates

20
Q

Outline multiplanar movements

A

Ball and socket joints
Circumduction, diagonal adduction and abduction

21
Q

What is reciprocal inhibition?

A
  • Describes the processes of muscles on one side of a joint relaxing to allow contraction on the other side
  • Activation of agonist motor units causes reciprocal neural inhibition of the antagonist
  • Allows lengthening of antagonist under less tension
