Lecture 22- Seedless Vascular Plants Flashcards
where do seedless vascular plants normally live?
moist environments
what do seedless vascular plants consist of?
monilophytes (ferns)
lycophytes (club mosses)
is the fern lifecycle heterosporous or homosporous?
homosporous
how does the fern lifecycle work?
fertilization
zygote (2n)
mature sporophyte (2n) (fern)
sporangium (2n) that are on the backside of the leaves go through meiosis
spores (n) are released using a catapult system
spore turns into a thallus (n)
antheridium (sperm) and archegonium (egg) are released from the thallus for fertilization.
what does a thallus consist of?
rhizoid (for anchorage)
no roots stems leaves or cuticle
the fern lifecycle is monoecious, what does that mean?
both sperm and egg are produced by mitosis on the same gametophyte (thallus)
