- Deviates markedly from cultural norms.
- Pervasive.
- Inflexible and stable across time and place.
- Leads to distress or impairment.

- Functional inflexibility: cannot adapt to new situations.
- Self-defeating: behaviours harm others or the self.
- Unstable responses to stress.
- Lack of insight: cannot recnogize their own dysfunctional aspects of their personality.

Distrust and suspiciousness of others, and the actions ofothers are interpreted as malevolent.
