Meiotic Cell Division:
occurs only in specialized germ cells that give rise to sperm
and egg cells

Properties:
• Results in four daughter cells
• Each daughter cell contains half the number of chromosomes as the parent

Know and describe Cyclins and Cyclin Dependent Kinases and their role in regulating the cell cycle.

Answer 2

• Progression through the cell cycle is controlled by Cyclins:
- produced and degraded cyclically
- Activate Cyclin Dependent Kinases (CDKs)
- Activation of CDKs promotes cell division
- CDKs are always present in the cell but are active only with Cyclin bound
