Q

vena comitans

A

“accompanying vein”
for an artery there is usually a pair of accompanying veins

Q

what are the 3 superficial veins of upper limb

A
  1. cephalic- btw deltoid and pectoral
  2. basilic- drains into axillary or subclavian and returns via SVC

16
Q

what does small saphenous vein drain into

A

popliteal. rnus laterally and posterioyl

17
Q

what does great saphenous drain into

A

femoral. ascends medially

18
Q

are veins equal on both sides?

A

no.
The ones on Right side are shorter
The ones on left side are longer because they have to cross midline to get to vena cavas

19
Q

what forms the SVC

A

L and R brachipcephalic veins.

20
Q

are azygos and hemiazygos paired?

A

NO
azygos-right side. drains in SVC

hemiazygos-L side

accessory hemiazygos-L side

21
Q

what drains throacic wall

A

anterior and posterior intercostal veins

ant. empty into brachiocephalic

post. empty into azygus on right side, or accessory hemiazygus/hemiazygus on left

22
Q

what forms the IVC

A

unions L and R common iliac veins

23
Q

explain hepatic portal circulation

A

Venous blood returning from the alimentary canal below diaphragm is rich in nutrients, delivered to liver for processing. Venous blood of liver empties into inferior vena cava through hepatic veins
Hepatic portal vein transports venous blood from abdominal esophagus, stomach, intestines, pancreas, spleen to the liver. Vein is formed by union of superior mesenteric and splenic veins behind pancreas

24
Q

explain liver blood supply

A

DUAL! hepatic artery and venous drainage thru portal system

25
Q

superior mesenteric

A

collects venous blood from small intestine, cecum, appendix, ascending, transverse colon

jejunal/ileal/ileocoli/right/middle colic all drain into superior mesenteric

26
Q

inferior mesenteric

A

collects venous blood of splenic flexure, descending, sigmoid colon, rectum.

superior rectal, sigmoidal, left colic form inferior mesenteric

drain into IVC

27
Q

splenic vein

A

forms at hilum of spleen. receives venous blood from stomach/pancrease AND inferior mesenteric.
