Lecture #2 (Healing Process) Flashcards
What is primary healing?
Occurs by the process of primary intention: a bridge of cells bind together the nearby wound edges and approximate the wound)
What is secondary healing?
Occurs by the process of secondary intention (a larger wound gap is filled in form the bottom/ deeper tissues and sides to bridge the wound gap)
**This takes longer than primary healing
What are the three phases of healing?
Inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling
What phase takes up to 5 days and consists of stabilizing and containing the injured area?
Inflammation
What phase takes up to 21 days and consists of disposal of dead tissue and restore circulation?
Proliferation
What phase takes up to 1 year and consists of stabilizing and reestablishing the area?
Remodeling
True or false:
Inflammation is a necessary component of healing.
True
What substance binds together fibrin and collagen and forms a lattice-like plug to clot the area?
Fibronectin
