Lecture 19-Resource transport Flashcards
Chracteristics of open circulatory system?
Circulatory fluid bathes organs directly, Mainly in arthropods and molluscs. Hemolymph is interstitial fluid. Restricts growth.
Characteristics of closed circulatory system?
Circulatory system in vessels, circulatory and interstitial fluid separate.
What does the right-side of circulatory system do?
Moves blood to lung capillaries to become oxygenated.
What does the left-side of circulatory system do?
Carries blood to systemic capillaries, where it is deoxygenated and binds CO2.
What happens to blood pressure and flow rate across capillary beds?
They decrease due to the large effective area of capillary beds, slow flow enables effective diffusion.
Which direction does water move in plants?
High to low potential energy
What is the equation for water potential?
The sum of solute and pressure potential
