Lecture 19 Flashcards
1
Q
Explain why volume increases with temperature using KMT
A
As the temperature increases the KE of the particles increases; particles move faster and can move farther away from eachother. With increased kinetic energy the number and force of collisions with the movable walls increases resulting in a greater volume while the pressure remains constant.
2
Q
Assumptions of the Kinetic Molecular Theory of Gases (5)
A
- The individual particles can be considered to have negligible volume
- Gas particles have high KE and are in constant random motion
- Gas particles exert pressure due to collisions with container walls
- Gas particles do not interact with eachother (the distance between particles is so great they don’t feel the presence of others)
- the average KE (and therefore velocity) increases with increasing temperature
3
Q
Give the equation for mole fractions
A
mol of 1 component/ total mol of all components= X
- the sum of all mole fractions in a gas mixture is = 1
4
Q
Do you know how to find limiting reagents?
