Lecture 18 (Emily) Flashcards
What are the 3 types of flight control system
Mechanical, hydro Mechanical, and fly by wire
Which of the flight control systems are irreversible (i.e the wind wont cause the pedal to move in the plane)
Hydro mechanical and fly by wire
What do you need to make sure you have in fly by wire systems for saftey?
redundancy , also good to have artificial feel systems so pilot can feel what doing each thing would do
Briefly explain how PID works?
read sensors, calculate corrections and then apply corrections
In a PID controller what does the integral component do?
adds error values from the past
In a PID controller what does the derivative component do?
Tells you how fast you are approaching target
What is an aircraft stability augmentation systems
a thing that uses PID, sensors , actuators in order to keep the aircraft stable, especially during disturbances. Doesnt think about pilot
What are the problems with original SAS’s
less responsive to pilot input
lots of redundancies
What are the problems with a flying wing
unstable in yaw (therefore need a FBW)
What is a control augmentation system?
Same as SAS but takes pilot inputs into consideration
