Describe the trend of mortality over the last 50 years;
A
Rates of mortality have decreased - We are living longer across both genders and races (some inequity still exists)

What other trends are decreasing? and whats increasing?
A
- Vascular disease mortality is decreasing
- Cancer mortality is decreasing
- Obesity is rapidly increasing

Why is coronary and stroke mortality falling but obesity is rising?
A
We are consuming more energy thus putting on more weight.
- But we now have fridges (less salt)
- Saturated to unsaturated fats (less LDL cholesterol and CHD risk)
- Smoking less
- New medications are a minor contribution i.e statins

When we say CVD what do we include in that?
A
- Cardiovascular disease
- Ischeamic heart disease
- Cerebrovascular disease
i. e very broad range
