- due to thinning of the skin

- skin condition between tissue plates that fold onto each other (like underneath breasts)
- due to moisture being trapped causing maceration of cells (saturated with fluid and breakdown)
- -> inflammatory cascade which results in a secondary fungal infection (red + purulent discharge)

- thickening of skin due to recurrent itching or scratching
- chronic thickening of skin
- tx with corticosteroid cream and BREAK THE BEHAVIOR (stop itching)

- low potency = 1% hydrocortisol cream (90% of cases)
- intermediate potency = .1% triseminal cream

stasis dermatitis
A
- blackened skin with cracks
- fluid pools in lower extremity and leaks out staining the skin via hemosiderin (brownish)
- -> cracks due to low moisture
- tx with wetting and then stockings to help vasculature
- add steroid cream if infection
