define Iatrogenesis
A
- set of illnesses and injuries brought upon patients AS A DIRECT RESULT OF THEIR INTERACTION W/ the HEALTH CARE SYSTEM via actions and words

what is the most common iatrogenic
A
- MEDICATION
- -> Anticoagulants (risk for bleeding vs pros of preventing stroke)
- -> NSAIDS (if you use NSAID, make sure to protect upper GI tract with PPI (prilosec)

Risk of procedure itself
A
- Blood tests need to be explained carefully to the pt
- RADIOLOGY IS A VERY WEALTHY THIRD WORLD NATION
- -> ask ourselves if the proposed exam/test will REVEAL ENOUGH USEFUL info to outweigh the INCONVENIENCE and RISK to pt
- -> endoscopy is much easier on the patient and reveals a lot of info
