3 things to consider when planning a death

A
  1. treating team is responsbile for serving childs best interestes and should be open to discussion about how to define that with the family input
  2. parental investment in decision is profound, carries weight but cannot outweigh the childs interest
  3. negotiating a process for decidign may cause conflict and suffering and alleviate guild btu not always

Role of family within official documentation

-this is in the code of health and disality consumers rights

A

A written oral directive - by which a consumer makes a choice about a possible future health care procedure and that is intended to be effective only when he or she is not ocmpetent

  • can plan in the future for what patients would want if their mental capacity is imparied later on or if they are unconcoisu
  • mdoctors must act in the patients best interested and take into acount what hte patietn wanted
  • cannot ask for things that would not be allowed if the patient was copetent -cannot ask for assisted death

A

To make an informed choice and give informed consent

  • unless patient is not competenet
  • if not competent - doctor will provide treatment to best interest of patient, (not family - because noone can talk on behalf),
  • need to be writen down and signed - if procedure is experiremental, or general anaaesthetic or sever adverse risk
  • can withdraw
  • can ask for preference

  • can what the family wants be reconciled with your role obligations ans a doctor
  • how will the fmaily be affected if you go against their wishes, can you minimise the damage of this? can you justify any adverse conseqeucens for this fam?
  • does your decision have a rborader implication
  • what would you do?
