Lecture 11 - Hauora Maori Flashcards

Q

Intro

A

We all have our own worldviews, biases, assumptions and blindspots
Recognising and critiquing these is an important aspect of developing our skills in critical thinking (elephant in the room)
Many prevalent beliefs and opinions about Māori people, Māori culture and Māori health are rooted in racist ideology.
If accepted uncritically, they can influence our thinking and practice in ways that may be detrimental to Māori health and equity
It is therefore important that we critically examine the underlying philosophical positions and assumptions
