14
Q

do third class levers produce a mechanical disadvantage or advantage?

agonist?

A

the one that exerts effort to move bone

16
Q

antagonist?

A

the one that relaxes so the agonist can move the bone

17
Q

example of agonist vs antagonist?

A

flexion at elbow joint:
bicep brachii: agonist
triceps brachii: antagonist : must relax to move bone

18
Q

synergists?

A

muscle that stabilizes intermediate joints so movement can occur around one joint only

19
Q

fixators and example

A

fixators stabilize one end of the bone so the other end can move
- abduction of arm: fixators stabilize the scapula so the agonist/deltoid muscles can move the bone

20
Q

whats a spasm

A

a spasm is an involuntary contraction of a muscle or group of muscles

21
Q

cramp?

A

painful spasm

22
Q

most common cause of spasms

A

dehydration

23
Q

what is muscle soreness often caused by

A

microscopic damage to muscles

24
Q

minor injuries should be treated with price and what is price?

A

protection, rest, ice, compression, and, elevation

25
Q

severe injuries can require?

A

rehab and/or meds: nsaids or corticosteroids

26
Q

plantar fascitis

A

heel pain basically.
causes include: excess weight, uneven weight, or illfitting footwear.
- leads to chronic inflammation of plantar aponeurosis
- treatment: price, stretching, weight loss, orthotics, surgery

27
Q

compartment syndrome

A

caused by pressure that restricts blood flow to area.
mild: pain severe: paralysis
- excess fluid causes sweeling
- fasciostomy may be required and may result in fibrosis and muscle shortening
