lecture 1 - Tues Jan 7 Flashcards
training is a combo of ___ and ___ which uses __ evidence
science and art - uses evidence and practice based evidence
what is exercise physiology concerned wtih?
how body responds t acute stress of exercise/physical activy and chronic stress of physical training
what are some ways we can modify stress
increase heat, duration, intensity, weight? reps … endless!
what are 3 roles of exercice?
measure functional status, reveal strengths and limitations in a function, exercise to stress with goal of adaptation
waht is training?
atimualtion of biolgoical adaptions result in improvemeent in performance of task like muscle contraction
difference betwen physical actity, exrcise and training
PA is more unstructured stress on the body wheras exrcsie is a structured form of physical activyt, training is more chronic over a period of time usually to produce desired adaptions with goals in mind
what is conditioning and why do we do ti/
training or accustoming a person to bahve in certain way and accept certain circumstances
we do it perform a task better and to be able to better withstand the stressor without getting injured or aill
what is overload? what msut be surpassed to preturb homeostasis?
incrasing demands on a system, creating a stimulus for adapation. threshold of overlaod surpassed to disturb homeoastasis enoughg for the adaptation to occue
Intensity of training can also be describes as the ration go
athletes current power out put to max power output
what is volume a product of
intensity, duration and freq
what is difference between rest and recovery
Rest - any period where you are not engaged in exrcise, part of recovery
Recovery - where the adaption can occur - repair of msucle fibres, stores regenerates, protein synthesis, removal of metabolic byproducts, restoring hormonal balance
explain detraining
after training boy revert back to pre-training status
- rate of loss could mimic rate achieved
- Once the adaptation has been gained less trainng is required to mainiatin it but need progression to increase
what is workout density?
amount of time athlete is active in workout without counting rest per workout
what is training density?
amount of training volume per time ( eg 3 hig intesity + 2low/weelk
what is training load?
the volume, intensity, density, duration of wokout or degree of preturbation of homestosas imposed by training stimulus
what is trainability?
the potential to improve in reponse to trainign
what is recoverability?
thea bility tor esume work after an effor - depends on quality and quantity of erest
for adaptions to last need to be done with slow high volume work
