Lecture 1: Intro Flashcards
Define Anatomy and its three major divisions
Gross, microscopic, developmental
regional vs systemic approach to studying anatomy
regional: region specific (i.e. using cadavers)
Systemic: studying systems. what we’ll do
what are the 3 anatomical planes
- frontal/coronal
- horizontal/transverse
3.sagittal
what does the coronal plane divide
anterior vs posterior
what does the transverse plane divide
inferior vs superior
how to describe things in relation to sagital plane
medial: closer to midsagittal
lateral: further
proximal vs distal
proximal= part of limb that is closer to root
flexion vs extension
flexion=angle of joint decreses
extension= angle of joint increases
**happen in sagittal plane
abduction vs adduction
abduction= moving away
adduction= towards
happen in coronal plane
lateral vs medial rotation
happen in horizontal plane
lateral= away
medial=toward
supination
palm forward
pronation
palm back
dorsi flexion
bringing toes to shin.
extension ofankle
plantar flexion
bringing toes down. flexion of ankle
2 groups of body cavities
- dorsal= cranial and verterbral
- ventral = thoracic, abdominal, pelvic
