Lecture 1 - HCI Introduction Flashcards
What is part of the Iterative Cycle Of Human Centred Design?
Observation -> Idea Generation -> Prototyping -> Testing
What is Observation?
Understanding the problem or problems.
- where is the a gap
- what is better
- solve what?
What is the Idea Generation Stage?
Create an idea by drawing on knowledge and conventions, but remain creative
-> break conventions if necessary, that is how things evolve
Does the Iterative Cycle Of Human Centered Design ever really end?
No, it is an infinite process.
What is the prototyping stage?
Making a test version of the software.
What is the Evaluation Stage?
There is many, all will be introduced throughout the course.
Should we spend a long time making the prototype.
No, the prototype should be something quick to push ideas across. We shouldn’t get attached to what we make, as it is made to guide changes and improvements.
What questions should we ask ourselves when generating an idea?
- What is our idea?
- Why will it work?
- What is the proof and where is it? (ather evidence via tests and compare to alternatives )
If we have a good idea is it ok to go straight into prototyping and evidence gathering from the prototype for comparison?
YES
What should we do if we aren’t certain about our idea or our idea is unclear.
We should exhibit an open ended approach with interviews with users and observations of how related products and solutions are used.
How should data be collected from users?
In an ethical and valid way, so that it can provide insights.
What is typing rollover?
Pressing the next keyboard button before the previous oine is released
How did HCI emerge?
When computers started becoming publicly available , creating a need for non-technical people to be able to perate them.
When did HCI begin?
1980s
What is HCI based on?
Human Psychology
