Lecture 1 Function based intervention Flashcards
What does a Function based intervention contain (2 points)
1) an assessment; identifies the function of the target behaviour ie. direct and indirect methods
2) Links the FBA to our intervention strategies.
What are the common funtions of problem behaviour?
Attn, tangible, automatic, escape.
Why are function based interventions preferred?
Because they are more effective
What is the difference between function based and non funtion based intervetnions?
Funtion baed interventions; changes behaviour by manipulating the environmental stimuli that maintain and reinforce the target behaviour.
May deliver maintaining reinforcer contingent on an alternative response on a FT scedule or may modfiy relevant antcedent variables.
Non function based intervention - does not consider information about the environmental stimuli that cause or maintain behaviour.
General strategies with no relation to varialbes idnefied in the FBA
What is being described? General strategies with no relation to varialbes idnefied in the FBA
NOn function based interventions
Waht ate the reasons to use function based interventions ? (5 points)
1) More likely to be effective
2) may minmise the potential MO -related issues
3) we know that we are using an effective reinforcer
4) More ethical
5) Not doing so may result in no behaviour change or behaviour may get worse.
What are the guidelines for identifying target behaviours (7 points)
1) Clear operational definitions
2) For whom is the behaviour a problem
3) is the behaviour in the individual’s repetitoire
4) Is it age approriate behaviour
5) Is the behaviour measurable
6) rate and freq of the BX
7) history of BX
What od behaviourial goals identify ? (3 points)
1) Identifes the desired behaviour or level of behaviour
2) Identifies when to fade or terminate an intervention
3) provides a qunantitative measure of the successfulness of our intervention
What are the characteristics of good goals? (4 points)
1) Clear; should specifically state what the desired outcome is.
2) Appropriate and realistic
3) Identfiy circumstances where the behaviours should occur
4) Include a mastery criteria
