Lecture 1+2+3 Flashcards
Information processing model
People are active information processors. The metaphor is that were a modeling computer, we are all equipped for input, processing, and storage
Switching costs
responding to stimuli takes longer when attention is directed towards two stimuli compared to one
Preparation effect
If knowledge of the task is given in advance and time is given to prepare, the average switch cost is usually reduced
Remaining costs
Preparation reduces switch cost, but generally does not eliminate them completely
Mixing costs
Task switching required cognitive resources. As a result tasks switching always costs more than it benefits. (you are always faster if you only have to focus on one task, even if you have time to prepare)
