Lec 4-1 Flashcards
Spindle movement and kinetochores
Microtubules lengthen and shorten at both ends in order to move
Kinetochore recognizes the centromere of the chromosome and allow for attachment of microtubules
Specific chromatid
Pole arrangement
Each centromere only connects to one sister chromatid
Thus all microtubule attachments to a chromatid are connected to one pole
Metaphase
Chromosomes align along the metaphase plate
Connected to spindle poles and ready to be split apart
Spindle assembly checkpoint
Critical quality control checkpoint
Anaphase
Connections between sister chromatid break down and they pull apart into daughter chromosomes
Microtubules dissembled on both ends by molecular motor proteins, pull daughter chromosome to pole
