What is racial framework? what is the key problem?
A
- the constructs of whiteness and blackness are the defining poles of racial meaning especially in the U.S.
- the key problem is b/c they are keeping everything b/w those 2 categories of black and white and nothing else
- so its only based on black and white categories

what do we need to consider to move beyond black/ white framework?
A
- When children from different ethnicities hangout and become friends they don’t see each other as different but more the same and there is no discrimination between them because it’s a cultural growth
- If there is more interaction b/w races there will be less discrimination

how does ethnicity and race intersect?
A
- Ethnicity is used to categorize groups of people based on notions of similarity and difference as well as on common history, culture, and social ties
- Race is more about skin color and external differences
- ethnicity shows more heritage and external differences

how does race and work intersect?
A
- people are racialized to the extent that they have minimal control over their position in the labor force and in the nation
- Conversely, Puerto Ricans and African Americans were racially banned from unions, restricting them largely to “unskilled” positions.
