Learning Flashcards
Operant conditioning
Conditions voluntary behaviour. Operating on the environment to produce a consequence. Reward and punishment or trial and error.
Classical conditioning
Conditions Involuntary behavior. Where a natural response is paired with a neutral stimulus to produce a conditioned response.
Associative learning
Learning process in which two stimuli become linked to produce a reponse. (Can be classical and operant)
Positive Reinforcement
Stimuli presented after a response, that increases response
Negative Reinforcement
Stimuli that when taken away after a response, increases that response
Operant
Behaviour that is emitted from the person or subject (NOT environment)
Primary reinforcer
Natural (innate) reinforcing stimulus that satisifies a biological need (Turn off annoying sound)
Conditioned reinforcer
Stimulus that gains reinforcing power through association with a primary reinforcer (Money from job to pay rent for shelter)
Punishment
Punishment decreases the behaviour
Reinforcement
Increases behaviour
What is learning?
The process of acquiring new and continuing Knowledge or behaviours due to experiences
Socio-cultural learning
Includes conditioning but expands it to includes social and cognitive learning
Latent learning
Learning that has occured but not manifested in behaviour. Learning a route but only manifests when you need it
Cognition
Our beliefs, attitudes and expectations
Example of Operant Conditioning
A teacher gives a sticker to students that submit their work on time. Rewards after the behaviour increases likelihood
