Pyschoactive drugs
Chemical substances that alter your mood and perception
Depressants
Alcohol, opiods (Pain killers), tranquilisers. slow body functions, suppress neural activity
Disinhibitor
Stimulants
Exicte neural activity, speed up body functions, mood changes e.g. Caffeine, Nicotine, Meth, Cocaine, Extasy
Hallucinogens or pyshedelics
Cause sensory images and distort perceptions. e.g. shorooms, LSD
Narcolepsy
Uncontrollabe sleep attacks and excessive daytime sleepiness
Insomnia
Persistant problems falling or staying asleep
Sleep Apnea
Causes sleepers to stop breathing until low oxygen levels wake them up
night terror vs nightmare
Rarely remember them During nrem-3 sleep. Typicall screaming and flailing during sleep.
Nightmares
Occur in REM sleep. Vivid memory of it
