Learning Flashcards
Classical conditioning
uses instinctual responses to create associations between unrelated stimuli
Operant conditioning
consequences of behaviors change the frequency of behaviors
reinforcement
increases the likelihood of an action happening
punishment
decreases the likelihood of an action happening
positive (punishment/reinforcement)
adding something to promote or reduce a behavior
negative (punishment/reinforcement)
taking something away to promote or reduce a behavior
escape learning
animal attempts to flee from unpleasant stimulus
avoidance learning
animal attempts to avoid experiencing an unpleasant stimulus
primary reinforcer
a reinforcer that the animal innately responds to
secondary reinforcer
a reinforcer that the animal is conditioned to respond to
discriminative stimulus
there is a potential for a reward in the senario
fixed ratio schedule
reinforce after specific number of instances of behavior
variable ratio schedule
reinforce after variable instances of behavior. THIS IS THE BEST FOR FAST LEARNING AND RESISTANCE TO EXTINCTION
fixed interval schedule
reinforce the first instant after a set time period
variable interval schedule
reinforce after variable sets of time have passed
