seduces Atreus’ wife Aerobe and has a daughter named Pelopia and two sons
What does Atreus do in response to Thyestes?
- sends Pelopia away to grow up elsewhere
- keeps sons as hostage
Years later what does Atreus do? How does Thyestes react?
throws reconciliation banquet for Thyestes - serves Thyestes the flesh of his two sons - Thyestes flees Mycenae devastated
What does oracle say about Thyestes?
if he fathers a son by Pelopia (his daughter) that son will avenge him
What does Thyestes do in response to oracle?
many years later and disguised Thyestes rapes his daughter Pelopia
How does Pelopia respond to Thyestes?
steals his sword, conceive son Aegisthus
Who does Atreus find?
Pelopia - do not recognize each other
Who is born from Pelopia?
Aegisthus - Thyestes son but raised as Atreus’ son
What does Pelopia give Aegisthus?
the sword of Thyestes
