Mantle
The second layer of the earth by composition. It is semi solid near the crust and liquid near the core. It is very hot and dense. It contains iron, calcium, magnesium. It is 2,850km thick.
Core
The third and last layer of the earth by composition. It is a solid and twice as dense as the mantle. The composition in metallic and contains iron and nickel. Its liquid outer ‘part’ spins around its solid inner ‘part’ creating the earth’s magnetic field. It is 3,500km thick.

These layers include the crust, mantle, and core. They seem to have sharp boundaries between them.
Lithosphere
The first layer of the earth by interaction. It is a solid layer. It floats over the asthenosphere like plywood on mud. It includes all of the crust and a little of the asthenosphere. 200km thick
Asthenosphere
The second layer of the earth by interaction. It is a semi solid and gets more Louise hen the temperature and pressure increases. 460km thick
Mesosphere
The third layer of the earth by interaction. Is hot due to the weight and pressure above it. 2,240km
Outer Core
The fourth layer of the earth by interaction. Liquid…spins around the solid inner core, which creates the earth’s magnetic field 1,250km thick and 1,250km deep
Inner Core
The fifth and last layer of the earth by interaction. Solid. 2,250km deep and 1,250km thick

When pieces of the lithosphere floats or moves on top of the plastic semi-solid asthenosphere

The immense heat radiating off the core, and the pressure of the other layers
How the layers of the earth is categorized
The layers of the earth by composition are put together by its chemical composition while the layers of the earth by interaction are put together because of how they interact with each other (ex. Parts of the lithosphere float or move on top of the asthenosphere or when the liquid outer core spins around the solid inner core which creates the earth’s magnetic field)

Crust
The first layer of the earth by composition. It is a solid layer that is very rigid and thin and can break. It contains granite under the continents and basalt under the oceans. It contains oxygen, silicon, and aluminum. It can be as deep as 100km thick under the continents and 5km thick under the ocean, which averages out to about 50km thick.
