ARBOIS (CHARDONNAY/SAVAGNIN), PUFFENEY, CUVÈE SACHA, 2010, JURA FRANCE- 75
Chardonnay/Savagnin. Jacques Puffeney is synonymous with the Jura. This area is dominated by the forested Jura Mountains and is somewhat detached geographically which has allowed for traditional wine styles and grapes to persist. His Cuvee Sascha is a blend of Savagnin & Chardonnay. The Savagnin is one of the indigenous grapes of the Jura region. He makes the savagnin portion in the ‘sous voile method’ (‘under the veil’). This is deliberate oxidation by not topping off the evaporated wine in the barrels. Thus, creating a pocket of oxygen and a ‘flor’- like layer (similar to sherry).
Tasting Note: Full bodied with sherry notes, bruised pears and nut shells. Brine and rich creamy finish.
