Laws of Learning Flashcards

1
Q

Laws of Recency

A

People tend to recall and use that which they learned last or most recently. It is easier to remember a subject after a recent seminar, or how to solve a complex technical problem on the job, than to recall a simple trigonometry problem from high school.

Q

Law of Readiness

A

People must be in a receptive frame of mind if learning is to be effective. Learning a particular thing must be seen as a benefit to them. Everyone learns more easily if they see the value and have desire to learn.

Q

Law of Disuse

A

When knowledge or a skill is not used, it becomes fuzzy or rusty, making it more difficult to recall or use. Knowledge is the first to suffer from disuse, and a skill may become rusty, but both are often quickly regained with a little practice.

Q

Law of Intensity

A

The more involved students become with learning, the more they learn and the better they recall knowledge. Active learning form reading and/or performing a skill are far superior to passive learning from watching a movie or listening to a lecture. Learning is an individual effort that greatly intensifies with individual participation.
